SMARTSPACES at Concerto Conference, 22-23 October 2013, Brussels

On 22 and 23 October 2013, the energy projects SMARTSPACES, eeMeasure, BECA and eSESH are presented with a stand at the CONCERTO Conference "Energy Solutions for Smart Cities and Communities", organised by DG ENERY in the European Commission's Charlemagne Conference Centre.

SMARTSPACES project presentation at Municipalia

The SMARTSPACES project will be presented at the 17th Municipalia, an international exhibition of municipal services and equipment, taking place from 23 to 25 October 2013 in Lleida, Spain. With around 22,000 expected visitors and 325 exhibitors, Municipalia is the second most important exhibition for municipal services and equipment in Europe. In 2013, energy savings is one of the main topics at the exhibition. The SMARTSPACES partners from Lleida will present the entire project and offer opportunity to interact with the system installed in Lleida. The presentation is addressed to municipal energy managers as well as mayors and visitors interested in energy efficiency.

Leicester: App helps council employees to be energy efficient in the heat

On Wednesday 24 July 2013, 10 Leicester City Council officers met for a focus group at 16 New Walk, one of the SMARTSPACES pilot sites in Leicester, UK.The group discussed the impact of an app which is used for SMARTSPACES and helps officers to view gas, electricity and water consumption. The users were pleased with complex information being put into an easy to understand graphic display. They also liked the idea of being able to contribute to the energy management of the building. One officer stressed the importance of the app. "We can all assess our homes energy efficiency and performance through bills. At work we do not necessarily see bills and as we don't pay any bills there is little urgency or motivation to act..

The SMARTSPACES project enables public authorities in Europe significantly to improve their management of energy in the buildings they occupy. The SMARTSPACES energy optimisation service exploits the potential of ICT including smart metering for significant energy saving in public buildings. The implementation of operational services includes 11 pilot sites with more than 550 buildings in 8 countries with almost 20,000 professionals and staff users and reaching more than 6,000,000 visitors annually. The project is co-funded by the European Commission within the CIP ICT Policy Support Programme.
